About Podaroo:

Podaroo is a podcast aimed at 2-5 year olds. It's for and by kids. Anyone of any age can record their voice at the website to be included in upcoming episodes.

How did Podaroo come to be? Picture a mom trying to entertain restless toddlers in the car. Kids music worked for a while but ultimately drove mom batty. News radio meant the kids were seizing on words from the crime report and throwing them around. And because she knows toddlers most like to hear other kids voices, she came up with a new kind of podcast to tickle kids' minds and maybe even teach adults a thing or two.

Each 5 minute episode of podaroo is divided into 3 segments.

  • "Sound door" is a simple sound guessing game that has a different theme each week.
  • In "Language Crossroads" kids learn one word in six languages (Spanish, Italian, Farsi, Mandarin Chinese, Yoruba and Telugu).
  • The episodes finish up with four bird calls that are identified with fun, rhyming riddles. Throughout the voices of kids are included.

The podcast was created and produced by Rachel D. Thanks to Alan W. for designing and coding the recorder and Wiley W. for web design.

Thanks, too, to the Macauly Library at Cornell University for the bird sounds.
